I was living in New Orleans at the time, the phone rang and it was my Mom calling to ask if I was familiar with Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai.  She heard him play his flute on an NPR  interview and she told me how much she enjoyed it.

A couple of days later, I received  my first R. Carlos Nakai CD in the mail – I was blown away.  The music was beautiful, tranquil and spiritual - And that was my inspiration to learn to play the Native American Cedar Flute and record The Spirit Speaks.
